Welcome to Globe's IPv6

Internet Protocol (IP) is the "language" and set of rules computers use to talk to each other over the Internet. The existing protocol supporting the Internet today – Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) provides the world with only 4 billion IP addresses, inherently limiting the number of devices that can be given a unique, globally routable address on the Internet.

On February 3, 2011, the IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) the international body responsible for distributing Internet addresses has given out the last of the IPv4 addresses Due to the rapid proliferation of personal computers, smartphones, networked appliances, and other connected devices around the world, it's easy to conceive how we've already exhausted four billion IPv4 addresses. With this exhaustion, new services and applications may be limited by the lack of allocation of addresses.

The emergence of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), providing the world with an almost unlimited number of available IP addresses [about 3.4 x 1038 (340 undecillion) addresses - or to about 4.3 x 1020 (430 quintillion) addresses per square inch or 6.7 x 1017 (670 quadrillion) addresses/mm² of the Earth's surface] and enhanced mobility features, is essential to the continued growth of the Internet and development of new applications leveraging Mobile Internet connectivity.

Globe is in the forefront of technology. We are working for years in adapting the next generation Internet Protocol version 6 to ensure its clients and subscribers continued and enhanced services and application for the future of the Internet and beyond. Globe is also in line with the Philippine Government Initiative for IPv6 in the Executive Order 893 - Promoting the deployment and use of Internet Protocol version 6 - IPv6.
